Propecia (finasteride) is a medication that is widely used to treat male pattern baldness. However, there are some studies that show that it can increase hair growth and slow down further hair loss. In this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of finasteride 1 mg versus placebo in reversing hair loss after balding.

Keywords:Finasteride, hair loss, slow down hair loss, Finasteride

Study protocol

This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at the, and conducted at the, in combination with a finasteride 1 mg tablet, at two different therapeutic regimens: 1mg finasteride 1 mg daily and 1 mg placebo.

Methods

Study population

Approximately 80 men aged 40-60 years in the, were randomized to receive either finasteride 1 mg tablet, or placebo tablets. The men were instructed to take finasteride 1 mg daily for 5 days (1 mg finasteride tablet once daily) or placebo for 5 days (1 mg placebo once daily). The men underwent an assessment of hair loss with an evaluation scale of 0-4, with a score of 0-4, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss, or an increase of 1-2% of hair loss on the initial assessment. The study was performed at baseline, 1, 2, and 4 months. The men completed the questionnaire at the end of the study. A total of 180 men were included in the study; 80 men were excluded after the 5-day treatment period. A total of 60 men were randomized to finasteride 1 mg tablets or placebo tablets. The participants were instructed to take the finasteride 1 mg tablet for 5 days and to take the placebo tablet at the same time each day. The men were instructed to complete the questionnaire at the end of the study at the same time. After baseline, the men were randomized to finasteride 1 mg tablets or placebo tablets for 5 days and then continued to complete the questionnaire at the end of the study. In addition, they were instructed to return to the study once the study was complete.

Measurement of hair loss

The participants who received finasteride 1 mg tablets were instructed to assess their hair loss using an evaluation scale of 0-4, with a score of 0-4, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss on the initial assessment, and an increase of 1-2% of hair loss on the assessment. The men who received placebo tablets were instructed to complete the questionnaire at the same time. The men were instructed to return to the study once the study was complete.

Evaluation of hair loss

The participants that received finasteride 1 mg tablets were instructed to assess their hair loss using an evaluation scale of 0-4, with a score of 0-4, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss, a decrease of 1-2% of hair loss on the initial assessment, and an increase of 1-2% of hair loss on the assessment.

Statistical analysis

The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS statistical software program (version 22.0). The continuous data were expressed as mean and standard deviation and the categorical data as frequencies and percentages. A significance level of less than 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.

Results

The participants were predominantly male with a mean age of 47 years (range: 25 to 65 years).

The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at the.

A total of 180 men were randomized to finasteride 1 mg tablets or placebo tablets. The study was conducted in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design.

Baseline characteristics

The baseline characteristics of the 180 men that received finasteride 1 mg tablets were shown in.

The mean age was 51 years (range: 25 to 65 years) and 68% were female. The most common reasons for treatment with finasteride 1 mg tablets were headaches (60%) and insomnia (37%).

Abstract

Finasteride (Sigma) is an effective medication used to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) in men with enlarged prostates. However, the mechanism of action of finasteride in this regard is not fully understood. We investigated the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the mechanism of action of finasteride in the treatment of BPH. A total of 60 men with BPH received finasteride (0.5, 1.5 and 2.5 mg daily) for 5 months. Urine and tissue samples were collected at baseline and 5 months after finasteride treatment. Cytochrome P450-linked metabolizing enzymes and proteome analyses were used to assess the changes in the proteome and the levels of cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related cytochrome P450-related. In addition, the proteome and the level of the proteome were also investigated.

Introduction

Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), which is a common symptom of male pattern hair loss, is one of the most common causes of functional dysmorphia in aging men. It is often accompanied by a significant reduction in urinary flow, often leading to the need to treat the condition. Finasteride (generic name: Propecia) is a potent 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, resulting in decreased prostate size, increased prostate volume and decreased urinary flow in older men. Finasteride is not effective in the treatment of BPH. A study of the efficacy and tolerability of finasteride in men with BPH showed that patients treated with finasteride had a reduction in the frequency of acute urinary retention compared to patients treated with placebo (0.5 mg daily) (0.5 mg or 5 mg daily). However, the study did not show any significant differences in the prevalence or adverse events between the two treatment groups. Furthermore, the study did not report the effects of finasteride in men with normal prostatic function.

Finasteride is a non-steroidal inhibitor of the 5-alpha-reductase isoforms 5a-d, 5b-d, and 5c-d. It also competitively inhibits the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. This action leads to the inhibition of both the 5-alpha-reductase and the 5-alpha-reductase-specific cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms. Finasteride was found to be effective in patients with BPH. The mechanism of action of finasteride in BPH is not fully understood, but it can result in a decrease in the flow of urine, an effect that is primarily related to the reduction in prostate volume. The reduction in prostate volume is considered one of the primary effects of finasteride in BPH patients. Therefore, a reduction in prostate volume may be an important component of the treatment response to finasteride in BPH. A potential mechanism of action of finasteride in BPH is not fully understood, but it can result in a decrease in urinary flow. Additionally, it can also result in an increased risk of acute urinary retention, a condition where prostates are not fully removed by physical exertion. Therefore, a reduction in prostate volume and an increase in urinary flow may be a potential mechanism of action of finasteride in BPH.

Finasteride is available as generic and brand-name medications. Generic medications are usually more cost-effective than brand-name medications. There is no standardized brand-name drug for finasteride. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of finasteride in patients with BPH treated with finasteride compared to placebo.
